Local Support Groups

Regional Mental Health Center offers support groups for mental health disorder treatment and substance abuse treatment

Regional Mental Health Center facilitates several support groups for adults and youth age six and older. Our services are private and confidential and a referral is not needed. We’ve assembled a number of additional online resources below. If you need immediate crisis assistance, call our hotline at 219.769.4005, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

National Autism Society of Northwest Indiana: An educational support group for those affected by autism. Call (219) 769-5140 for a schedule of the meetings and locations. Area served: Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski counties.

Cancer Support Group: The Cancer Resource Centre offers support groups in Munster. For more information, visit www.cancerresourcecentre.com.

Compassionate Friends of Lake/Porter County: Helps families find a positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and provides information to help others be supportive. Call (219) 662-0902 for more information.

Congregation Peer Support Programs: Call your congregation to inquire about church support programs.

F.A.I.T.H. (Families Accepting Issues Through Hope): Advocates for access to services, treatment, support and research. The organization serves families coping with anxiety/depression and all other mental illnesses. Contact Joanna Cobb at 219-508-8419 for more information.

Family Action Network: Support group services for parents and a youth group for children and adolescents offered in Hammond. Contact Nancy Cloonan at (219) 933-1700 or (219) 644-7374 for more information.

Hospice of Calumet: Offers a grief support group for adults, teens and children. Also provides written educational materials on grief and bereavement for all ages, monthly mailings, telephone support, referrals to community services, short term counseling and support services. Lake County Reference Library: Lists agencies, organizations and support groups on a variety of topics including medical, grief support, parenting, youth and older adults. Visit www.lcplin.org for more information.

Living After Loss: Support for people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Call (219) 886-4600 for more information.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) sponsored groups: Offers peer-led support groups for any adult with a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. To find a NAMI support group near you, click here

Organization for Social Support of Surviving Spouses: Provides social and support groups for surviving spouses. Meets in Merrillville. For more information, call (219) 942-7872.

Out of the Darkness Walk Local Chapter: A chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention that uses community walks as an opportunity to give people the courage to open up about their own struggle or loss, and the platform to change our culture’s approach to mental health. Reassurance Contact Program: Reassurance call/visit for homebound and elderly. Call (219) 938-0900 for more information.

STITCH (Standing Together In Tolerance Changing Humanity): Provides information about suicide in youth, minorities and LGTBQ. The group examines statistics and risk factors, and works to dispel common myths surrounding suicide. Offers prevention strategies for schools and community groups. Suicide Survivors Support Group/Wounded Healers: Program offers comfort to people grieving the death of someone special by providing information, resources and compassion. Fore more information, click here.

Support Group for Parents of Children with a Disability: A support group of Mental Health America. Contact Kristen Verhoeve at (219) 922-3822 for more information.

Survivors of Loss Due to Addictions or Suicide (SOLAS): Peer facilitated support group for youth ages 16 and older. Email mmhodson@mhapc.org or cpirlot@mhapc.org or call (219) 462-6267.

VNA Phoenix Center for Grief and Healing: Offers bi-weekly peer support groups for children, teens and young adults who have experienced loss. A child may start immediately following an orientation.
