Regional Health Systems Provides Substance, Alcohol Use & Gambling Treatment
Regional Health Systems offers treatment for substance abuse and drug abuse through our residential and outpatient programs for adults and youth. We believe that the best therapy is offered in the least restrictive setting. Regional Health Systems services are private and confidential. Anyone can request services; a referral is not needed. Residential Detoxification Programming

This program assists clients who are physically dependent on drugs and/or alcohol that requires detoxification. Detoxification is done at both sites and lasts up to 9 days with the use of Suboxone for opiate withdrawal management and comfort medications for alcohol withdrawal that is overseen by a licensed physician.
Residential Treatment Programming

Clients are only admitted on a voluntary basis who have moderate to severe addictions. Their care is provided in a locked, non-medical unit. The program is very highly structured and includes group and individual therapy, educational groups, case management, discharge planning and an introduction to self-help groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. The average length of stay is about 14 days. Treatment is overseen by a licensed physician.
Halfway House – Supportive Living Environment

This program provides the opportunity for clients to develop and practice skills to create and maintain a healthy recovery from addiction. The program is supervised by staff 24/7. Treatment includes group and individual therapy, educational groups on healthy daily living skills including assistance with job search, interview skills, addiction, case management and introduction to self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotic Anonymous and Celebrate Recovery.

Regional now offers medication-assisted treatment with the use of Vivitrol (Naltrexone) to clients who meet the Vivitrol protocol requirements which include that clients remain active in an addiction treatment component for the entirety of the MAT which lasts on average of 1 to 1.5 years. The goal is to learn and practice healthy daily living skills as the MAT and addiction treatment are active.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient Substance Abuse Programming

Regional has several levels of outpatient treatment that serve persons and families who have problems with alcohol or other drugs in our system at both main locations in Merrillville and East Chicago and in our satellite offices in Hobart and Merrillville. All clients receive a complete assessment so that a plan can be tailored to each individual’s needs. The program works closely with the twelve-step Anonymous groups. Group, family, couple and individual therapy and Spanish-speaking services are available.
Adolescent Outpatient Group

Striving Together to Achieve Recovery (STAR) is an adolescent program consisting of two days per week for 12 weeks. The young person would receive information about the psychological and physical effects of substance abuse as well as being educated on the 12-step program and other coping skills to stay sober. Parent or guardian participation is encouraged for the STAR group.
Problem Gambling Addiction Services

Although technically not a substance, gambling is a very real addiction. We offer counseling services to adults and clients as young as eight years old. Our state endorsed gambling treatment providers are licensed addiction professionals. Thanks to state funding, Regional is able to offer gambling addictions services on a sliding fee scale, making them affordable to all those in need.
